The House Stands Strong

The House Stands Strong
by Mark Lawrence

Good for the House of Representatives, especially Maine Congressmen Tom Allen & Mike Michaud.

Despite increasingly loud threats from the White House, the U.S. House of Representatives has stood strong by not passing a new Intelligence bill that would provide retroactive immunity to telecom companies that helped the government engage in illegal surveillance.

With the old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) due to expire at midnight tonight, the Bush Administration has regaled us with the potential horrors that might come.

Silvestre Reyes, the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, had the best response: "Things will be fine."

I commend the House for standing strong for the rule of law, and hope they will continue to oppose this administration's attempts to disregard the Constitution.
